Each spring the American Distilling Institute’s (ADI) conducts a Judging of Craft Spirits. The competition recognizes the top craft spirits in the US and around the world.
Since 2007, the competition has brought together approximately 50 spirit judges to evaluate submissions from small and medium sized producers. Both members of ADI and non-members can submit entries.
In addition to the usual listing of Bronze, Silver, Gold and Double Gold, the ADI’s craft spirit judging also recognizes the Best of Category and Best of Class. These are the top entrants among the Gold Medal winners.
Rum was the world’s first truly global spirits. Today rum is produced all over the world, and has proven popular among craft spirit producers. There were three rums that were chosen as Best of Class winners.
Big Dog Distillery, Heart River Spiced Rum, 40% ABV, 750 ml, won the Best of Category award for Spiced Rum. Big Dog is a small, family run craft distillery in Bismarck, North Dakota.
